Day 5
A number of options. We have a number of
options today depending on previous sightings,
the weather and group needs.
The Gearagh is a large series of inland lakes
with large numbers of wildfowl including Whooper
and Berwicks Swans, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye etc.
Scarcer species such as Goosander, Smew and
Ring-necked Duck can occur at times.
Or we could do the spectacular drive around the
Ring of Kerry. This is a 110-mile drive around
the Iveragh Peninsula and has unbelievable
scenery, great history and some good bird
watching particularly at Ballinskelligs Bay.
Great Northern and Red-throated Divers are
present here and Slovenian Grebes turn up
regularly.
A third option that is very popular is a morning
in the National Park with a visit to Muckross
House and Gardens which date from 1843 and was
visited by Queen Victoria of England such was
it's beauty. Then an afternoon spent shopping in
Killarney town.
