Winter Bird Watching in Ireland
Wintering birds come to Ireland from a wide
geographical range of breeding areas. Situated on the
western fringe of Europe, Ireland provides winter
quarters for birds from as far west as Arctic Canada,
from Greenland and Iceland and for birds which breed in
Northern Europe as far East as Siberia.
Winter is a prime time for bird watching here. Although
most of the summer migrants have left, this is more than
made up for by the winter visitors, mainly wildfowl and
waders which come here for our milder climate, feeding on
or around our many estuaries.
Our seven day tour concentrates on the South and South
West not only for the vast flocks of birds but also to
appreciate some of the finest scenery anywhere in the
world, some of our significant archaeological sites and
to while away the evenings we have gourmet restaurants,
lively bars, medieval banquets, Irish music and song and
talks from various experts.
Our luxurious coaches are driven by Irish Tourist Board
approved guides and our own bird expert, David Perry,
accompanies each tour throughout. So as well as the birds
you will also be taken through the archaeology, history,
folklore and culture of this ancient land.
The seven-day tour (below) begins and finishes at Shannon
Airport on the west coast and the price is land package
only.
This is our most popular tour but can be changed to meet
group needs. We are available all year round for group bookings.
| We will attempt to spot and
identify as many of this list as possible. This
means in addition to the main itinerary listed we
will visit as many different bird habitats as the
group feels it wants to, depending on birds
already seen and what species you still wish to
see. Therefore there will be some additional
flexibility to the overall itinerary listed. |
